About Debera Nielsen, PhD

A picture of Debera Nielsen, PhD - Director of Children's Country House Director Debera Nielsen earned her B.A. from City University in New York, and her Master’s Degree in Religious Education from the New York Theological Seminary.She founded the Children’s Country House in 1975 and received her PhD in Education from Claremont Graduate University in 1997 after completing her studies and research into the impact of play on early childhood learning.

Doctor Nielsen was invited to participate in the 2006 Oxford University Round Table in England. The Oxford University Round Table is a “by invitation only ” event to which only a few people are invited each year. The interenational event focused on early childhood education around the world.

All our teachers have degrees in Early Childhood Development. While scholastic credentials are very important to us, the qualities we look for in our instructors are genuine affection for children and the ability to inspire delight in learning.
